Our Infant and Toddler Classrooms

92_edited.jpg

Infants and Toddlers learn, develop, and create trusting relationships through interactions with the world and environments that surround them.  Attuned to these early learning needs, our teachers create "home away from home" settings that stimulate all the senses and take advantage of the nature-infused physical space that exists within the school.

Our infant classrooms are warm, nurturing, and designed to work around each child's individual schedule and specific needs.  As children grow and develop into their toddler years, our classrooms evolve accordingly by adding more structure to their day and supporting the development of positive social interactions with teachers and peers, alike. We offer 4 infant and toddler-level classrooms that are age-specific.

With our philosophy of "Imagine, Discover & Learn" central to our approach, infants and toddlers expand their horizons through their senses and nature.  Experiences include:

- Visual: Natural lighting, soft twinkle lights, and nature-based color schemes and displays create visually appealing spaces that are home-like and calming.

- Sound: Singing is used as a gentle prompt to engage infants or prepare toddlers for a transition.

- Touch: Water, clay, and a multitude of mediums allow children to use their sense of touch to explore differences and similarities between a wide range of materials.

- Outdoor Learning: Stollers and wagons allow children to experience each season from the warm beams of summertime sun to the crisp air of Fall to the feel of Winter snowflakes on their rosy cheeks.

- Movement: Children are encouraged to move their bodies to increase their understanding of their place within a specific environment.  For example, infants expand by reaching and grasping or rolling and crawling, while toddlers experiment with running and stopping or walking over uneven outdoor surfaces to increase stability.

- Art: Children create unique works of art using a variety of natural or recycled materials.
